Affiliate marketing - another way to profit from your website
Work at Home Answers
All this talk of profiting from your website is starting to sound like I am promoting a sales pitch in a website. Far from it.
What I am promoting is a content rich quality website which also earns you an income.

Of course you can just make a content rich website as a community service and choose not to earn anything from it,
but why pass up some extra cash for doing nothing more than allowing a few advertisements on your page - ones that
you control the positioning, the look and feel of?
So lets look at affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing is a process whereby you advertise someone else's
product on your site, and provide your visitors with a specially coded
link to the product. When your visitor purchases the product you get
paid.

It sounds messy and sales like doesn't it?

Not at all. My website is liberally sprinkled with affiliate links that pay me
when my visitors follow the link and sign up for the product they are
advertising.
For example I have placed a couple of affiliate links to SBI Sitesell. In
fact that was an affiliate link. I get paid a commission every time a
visitor clicks on an SBI Sitesell link and signs up for the program. It
is a program that I used to learn my craft, and it is program that I
consider excellent value otherwise I would not link to it.

The point I am trying to make here is that I placed the link in context
to what my paragraph was saying. It added to the information rather
than detracting.

I wouldn't for example talk about watering the garden the right way,
and then suddenly pop in a plug for SBI Sitesell. That would be silly.
So now we understand the basics of affiliate marketing on your site, lets look at how
to start your affiliate marketing program.

First you need to sign up with some sites who have affiliate programs. I would
recommend Amazon Books to anyone.

The reason being, they have books on every topic so there would hardly be a
content site out there that couldn't find something that their visitors might want.

With Amazon books you can advertise a single book, place an image of it on your
site with an affiliate link if you want to - see my example here.
Or you can use a text link recommendation of a book such as Build Your Own Website the Right Way Using HTML
and CSS.
Or you can link to your very own amazon book store, hosted on their site, which pays you commission
whenever someone purchases through your Amazon store.

A further affiliate program that is worthwhile is Clickbank. Essentially they list lots of vendor websites. Their affiliates
creat special "hoplinks" to the vendor sites which enhance the browsing experience of their visitors, and if a
purchase or designated action (such as signing up) happens when a visitor click through from your site, you get
paid by Clickbank.

For an idea of what a Clickbank site can be like, have a look at cbwebdirectory. This site simply lists hundreds of
clickbank vendor sites in a directory format, so visitors can easily find what they are looking for, and of course the
owner earns commission from clickbank for value added clicks.
Other affiliate sites depend on your topic. While you are doing
research for your topic look at the header, menu and footer of the
page for a link that says affiliate. Here is usually where you sign up for
an affiliate program.

Having said that, I don't recommend that you sign up with every affiliate
site you find. Check out their products. Use them if you can, then if
they offer genuine value for money for a product that is right for your
readers, you can sign up as an affiliate.

Once you join an affiliate program you will have access to lots of tools
that create affiliate link code which you put in your website so that they
can track your customers and credit you with the sale.

Usually the link is a short bit of html that you put in as a text link.
Sometimes it is java or some other script. You simply place this in the
same way you placed your Google script.
So there you have it affiliate marketing in one easy lesson. For more information about affiliate marketing I recommend
this ebook. Its where I learned a lot of affiliate techniques.

Now if you will please follow me to my Others page, I will show you other money making ideas for your site. Check them
out and use them or ignore them as benefits your site.
The secret is to only place in text links to products you are personally recommending and use. The links need to fit
the content of the paragraph and the site or you are wasting your time and could do damage to the reputation of
your site.
