What is this information revolution all about?
Work at Home Answers
Well they use it to find information, to socialise, to play games, to
shop and to share ideas. They may also keep a personal journal or
blog online and permit others to read what they have written or keep
it private. The Internet has gone from being a mystery known to a
few geeks, to a necessary part of everyday life, even a lifeline for
some who may be housebound or otherwise unable to get out and
about.
Why do people use the Internet?
As pre empted in my home page, we can provide people with the
information they are looking for, and earn an income from the links
they follow to make purchases, or we can sell our own products
online.
The primary aim of this page is to talk about making money from content rich websites.
First let me tell you how to make money from a website using
click through links.

Google has a wonderful program called adsense. With this nifty
program you can create special code which you place on your
website, and google uses the information from your web page to
run advertisements which fit the content. The ads are text based
and not intrusive, but they offer your readers the opportunity to
purchase items they might be looking for, related to the subject of
your web page. Any time a visitor to your web pages clicks on a
link in one of these Google ads you get paid.
How can we use this to make money?
Google has a complicated formula for working out what you get
paid, and it is a percentage of what Google is paid for the
advertisement.
Everyone benefits from this form of advertising. You benefit by being paid anytime someone clicks on a Google
adsense link on one of your pages, Google benefits by being paid by the advertiser for advertising, and the advertiser
benefits because they get widespread advertising they dont pay for until someone clicks on their advertisement (on
your page via Google adsense), and those clicks are from people who are interested in the product advertised.

You and Google have guaranteed that by making sure the advertisements on your page are for products people who
read your content are interested in.
You dont need to know any web coding except for being able to cut and
paste the code Google creates for you into your web pages.

If you don't know how to do this you can find plenty of free resources on
the Internet about using HTML.

You may find it a bit harder if you use a web host that provides web page
creation tools (freewebs, homestead etc use these) but you can generally
edit them enough to insert your adsense code into your pages.

I learned by saving a copy of my original pages, then trying different cut n
pastes until it worked. I was confident that I still had my original pages
backed up if I made a complete mess of things.

For more information about Google adsense please visit my adsense
page.

Affiliate links are another way you can earn income from your website.
With affiliate links you place special lines of code into your webpage,
and these create a link to the affiliate site or product.

When a visitor to your site clicks on an affiliate link, and then purchases
the product you get paid. The downside is you don't get paid if they don't
buy, but the upside is you get paid more than you get for pay per click
ads (such as adsense).

Ebay is a third way you can make money from your website. Ebay
allows website owners to place a box of ebay auction ads on your web
pages. These ads look just like the standard ebay auction site, and like
the Google ads the coding detects the topic of your page and places
appropriate auctions in the box.

You get paid when one of your visitors clicks on an auction and
successfully bids on the item. Again this means you don't get paid until
they make a purchase, but you do get paid more.

Freedom to be you
Of course you can also sell your own products, email courses, ebooks, videos
etc on your website. For more information about these please visit my Others
page.

All of these money making techniques rely on one important factor - getting
traffic to your website, and keeping them there.

For this to happen you need people to find your website, and the main ways
people find websites is by searching using Google/Yahoo etc, by following a
link from another website, by following a recommendation from a friend, a
forum, a social site etc, or by stumbling on it.

It is very rare that someone will stumble on your page, so you have to use
other techniques to tell people about your page.

Techniques for driving traffic to your website is covered in greater detail in my
Marketing page.
One important point to note here is you need to have your website listed with the search engines, and for that to happen
they have to know about your website.

Most of the major search engines have ways for you to tell them about your website. They will eventually send their
crawlers around to look at your page, and it will get listed. Where it gets listed depends on many things, which are
covered in more detail in the SEO page.

The important point here is that web sites that have plenty of good quality content will list higher than pages that are one
long advertisement.

So finally we get to the most important factor in your infopreneurial career - creating a website with plenty of quality
content. This means that the whole website should be about a single topic, divided into easy readable chunks (about
500 - 750 words per page) and sorted into a logical order.

I am guilty of making my pages too long because I try to give my visitors lots of information in few clicks.

So, because I am already way over my word limit for this page, I will ask you to visit my Content page where this
discussion on content will continue.
How will you spend your time?
