Marketing - Telling the world about your page.
Work at Home Answers
Marketing is the ways in which you "sell" your site to the world, and earn from your visitors click throughs. In
the SEO page we talked about listing your site with the search engines and improving your page ranking so
people can find you when they do a search.

One of the points mentioned there was that search engine robots become more interested in a site that has
links to it from other sites. This is an important piece of knowledge that will help you improve your page ranking.
How? Well you need to get other sites to link to your site.

Usually you will need to provide a link back to them in return. Now there are many ways to do this. A lot of sites
have link pages where they place all their links to other sites. A better way is to use in-text links in the same way
that you would for affiliate links.
As an example, I have used in-text links throughout this site for
CoffeeCup products. I am not an affiliate of theirs; in fact they
don't have an affiliate program, which is one way they keep their
prices within the reach of ordinary people.

I put links to them simply because I think their products offer
excellent value for money, and will help those of you who have
limited web publishing experience.

I have spent a fortune over the years buying and trying products
to help me get my technically challenged mind around web design.
I want to save you from doing that, so I provide you with my
recommendations.
Back to links. If you ask a site to place a link to you, try to get an in-text link from them. Links on link pages are
discounted by the search engine robots, and may even harm your ranking. The same goes for link exchanges
(pages that simply list links to everything).

Link exchanges are different from directories, because link exchanges simply place your link or banner on their
page somewhere. A directory organises links by category, and usually provides a few lines of description about the
site - a bit like search engine listings.
Links are also recognised by robots when they are placed on
forums, bulleting boards and social media sites such as Twitter
or facebook. These will be good sources of links for you.

If you joined some forums or bulletin boards while researching
your topic, then you can start telling them about your new site.
Please don't spam them as this will get you banned, but most
forums allow you to announce a new site.

If you contribute to the discussions, you can place a link to
your site in your "signature" so that every post you make has a
link to your site on it. Of course you make sure your posts are
relevant and actually contribute something to the discussion.
Me too posts written simply to display your site link in your
signature are frowned upon.
On social media sites such as Twitter you can post a few times with a link to your site. Don't over do it of course, that
will probably get you banned, but mentioning your new site and providing a link is acceptable.

My marketing campaign for this site started before I wrote my first page. On twitter I posted that I was thinking about
making a new content website. Every day I would post that I had written x amount of pages for the site. I never
mentioned the subject of the site nor its url until it was actually up on my host, but the tweets had generated interest
from my followers.

Then finally I let them know the url of the site. Since then I have mentioned the url in two or three posts, no more. You
could try this technique yourself on Facebook, twitter, or a forum.
Another way to get your link out there is to write
informative articles for ezines. You don't want to write
an article that just promotes your site, you want to aim
for the same quality of content in an article as you do
on your site.

Give them good content then leave them with a link to
your site. Editors will prefer these types of articles to
thinly disguised sales pitches.

Some marketers make a good living simply from writing
articles and providing links to sales pages that advertise
their latest ebook etc.
